I met Leonard briefly once. He was kind of spindly, but warm and friendly. He'd just spent 30 years working on his mountain... I know not why, but even as a non-believer, I'm glad he did. It's weird and big and playful and silly and colorful. It has no purpose, but it's wonderful.
Leonard passed away peacefully on Monday Feb. 10 at a convalescent home just east of San Diego, but he leaves a monument of his faith for use all to enjoy.
Here's a little film I made when I visited his mountain a few years ago.
